Following the council elections in May 2011, Labour has 872 local councillors in the South, representing just under 11% of the total. Labour runs seven councils with an outright majority – Slough, Oxford, Luton, Stevenage, Hastings, Ipswich & Gravesham, but in 57 southern councils there are no Labour councillors at all.
